Nigeria Banks Whose Naira Debit Cards Are Still Enabled For Online Foreign Transactions

The recession in Nigeria is affecting every work of life and have clamp hard on the banking sector. The scarcity of dollar and the high exchange rate has resulted in most commercial banks suspending online, POS and ATM transactions outside Nigeria with Naira denominated cards (MasterCard or Visa).

What this means is that you can't use your Naira debit cards to make online transactions on platforms based outside Nigeria. And also, you cannot use your Naira debit cards to withdraw money from ATM abroad.

Nigerian Banks
Due to this recent market development, most bloggers and internet marketers can't pay for Facebook ads and other services rendered by foreign websites. The only alternative is to request for a foreign currency (FCY) denominated debit card which will be linked to your domiciliary account. That means you have to open a domiciliary account if you don't have one.

If opening a domiciliary account is not possible for you at the moment, you can still go with some few banks that allow you to pay for services online with their Naira debit cards.

In order to know which Nigeria banks currently permit foreign transactions with their Naira debit cards, I contacted the banks. After getting their feedbacks, I came to know that Access Bank and Guaranty Trust Bank are the ones whose Naira debit cards are still enabled for online international transactions.

Not everyone is a blogger or internet marketer that earns in foreign currency. Thus, sourcing for dollar will be hard for you if you have a domiciliary account. No one knows the future, so we can't say how long these banks will continue with online foreign transactions with their Naira debit cards but as for now, you may choose to use them all.

  5. God will bless you sir for this piece of information. I don't know how I got here but it'll be ungrateful of me to leave without thanking you for making me realize that the Access bank which I pass across everyday still has there debit card enabled for international transaction. I was using Stanbic IBTC, and since they suspended the usage of their mastercard I have literally become a tenant of GTBank trying to open account with them only for them to turn down my application after weeks of waiting for ludicrous reasons like not filling out my email in block letters. My business has been shattered, and so has me. Thanks once again man. Access Bank here I come on Monday morning!

  9. Please am thinking which to go, either access bank or uba as per the online payment service , because i spoke to uba cc and he said that they still offer online transaction, but limited to 100$. So i don't know how sure he is, cos according to this, it seems like uba no longer enable online international payment service.

    1. UBA is only deceiving you. I know for sure that they no longer allow online transactions with their Naira Debit Card. I contacted their customer care and they kept telling me that it works only early in the morning. They made me to be waking up at odd hours of the night and in the early hours of the morning to try all to no avail. This is the level some banks can go to just to keep their past prestige. What a pity!

    2. I both have accounts with AccessBank, UBA, and FCMB. UBA was best as at 3 to years ago, not until its management wise deceptive. I buy always online at eBay and Amazon.com, if you are like me and need the best Hobo bank or banks to handle it all. Go with FCMB and Accessbank. FCMB is first choice. why? I have been buying using FCMB 4years now. The truth is, Accessbank has debited me manytimes without crediting the merchant, and such transaction will remain unnoticed by PayPal, meaning that you have not paid for your items. And AccessBank alsways allude this blame to VISA. And will also ask you to provide Declined Mail and which they knew it's impossible to get such mail. Whos gonna give you such declined mail. Of course they was no transaction seen by ebay. I have lose money in this process often. I am less than 6-month with AccessBank and 4-years with FCMB. The challenge with FCMB is that you are buy dollar at blackmarket price. its workers will give 100% maximum service even with sms and you cant lose your money. AccessBank is also good bank except for those challenges. I use both but kiss FCMB. Felix Edeth .M

  10. I contacted Access Bank customer care and they stated that the limit for international transactions with their Naira VISA Card is now $100 per month and it only works with the VISA Card. Their MasterCard is blocked for international transactions. As stated earlier, UBA has since blocked their own cards.
